Our pace of life...
Mike and I have been thinking and talking a lot recently about our pace of life. We are trying to figure out what our pace of life needs to look like for long-term life here to be sustainable - or even possible. "Involved" and "committed" are two words that have been part of this conversation. A friend recently shared this quote, which was helpful:
"There is a difference between being 'involved' and being 'committed'; like with the ham and the egg: the chicken is involved, but the pig is committed!"

Like a glow-worm in the dark...
"Perhaps, weary soul, the Lord is doing this to develop your graces. There are some of your graces that would never be discovered if it were not for your trials. Do you not know that your faith never looks as good in summer as it does in winter? Love is too often like a glow-worm, showing but little light unless it is surrounded by darkness. Hope itself is like a star--not to be seen in the sunshine of prosperity, and only to be discovered in the night of adversity.........Well, Christian, may this not account for the troubles through which you are passing? Is the Lord bringing out your graces and making them grow? Is it for this reason He contends with you?"

The art of living
The art of living is to enjoy what we can see and not complain about what remains in the dark. When we are able to take the next step with the trust that we will have enough light for the step that follows, we can walk through life with joy and be surprised at how far we go.

Near to the heart of God...
There is a place of quiet rest, near to the heart of God. A place where sin cannot molest, near to the heart of God.
There is a place of comfort sweet, near to the heart of God. A place where we our Savior meet, near to the heart of God.
From the hymn, "Near to the Heart of God"
